Inside Weir House Sonning
Weir House is an exclusive-use riverside house on the Thames at Sonning — the whole house and gardens are yours for the duration of your stay, with no shared spaces.
The lawns run down to the water's edge, with the house's own river frontage for kayaking and the Thames Path on the doorstep for riverside walks to Reading and Henley.
Five bedrooms sleep up to ten guests, with a bespoke Tara Neil kitchen that opens onto the deck, a snug for quiet evenings, a private gym, and a Scandinavian sauna and cold shower out on the decking — hot-cold contrast bathing by the river is the signature of a stay here.

Master Bedroom
Super King
Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a balcony with a breathtaking view across the garden and out over the Thames. The Super King bed has a bespoke solid-wood headboard, and a copper freestanding bath is the perfect place to relax and gaze. A beautifully appointed en-suite and integral wardrobes finish this stunning air-conditioned room.
Bedroom Two
King
Floor-to-ceiling windows with the same view and doors onto the balcony as the master. Smaller but with ample storage, this room also boasts a view over the weir, and features a King-sized bed.
Bedroom Three
Double + pull-out mattress
A double bed with a pull-out makes this a great room for sharing. There's a pull-out desk too, and sturdy drawers, as well as a view over the lock for aspiring boat-lovers.
Bedroom Four
Double + pull-out mattress
Another double bed with a pull-out mattress and a free-standing wardrobe — together with Bedroom Three, this room is great for the kids.
Bedroom Five
King
A cosy room with a King-sized bed and stunning views down the river and across to the weir. The well-insulated windows mean the cascading waters can be seen but not heard.
Extra Room - Study / Bedroom Six
Double sofa bed + en-suite
Optional extra room, available on request. A large, bright room with a door to the garden and a view to the rear, featuring a pull-out sofa double bed. With its own en-suite bathroom and step-free garden access, it could easily be used as a bedroom for someone with mobility needs.

The Heart of the House
Kitchen, Dining & Family Room
A simply stunning kitchen, dining and family room dominated by sliding doors across two walls that give unhindered views over the garden, the Thames and the weir — slide them open in summer to make the deck and the kitchen one. A large induction hob, a fridge-freezer big enough for any family, and two sinks including one on the island. A copper-covered dining table seats ten, and corner sofas, a television and a Sonos sound system mean you can entertain and be entertained while you cook.
Get Away From It All
The Snug
With its dark colours, voluminous sofa and thick carpet, the snug is the place to take yourself away from it all. A well-stocked games cupboard, DVDs (remember them?) and a DVD player — not to mention the 50" TV — mean you may never want to leave. Some of our favourite books line the hallway wall outside.
Stay Active by the Thames
The Gym
For those who like to stay active, the private gym is complete with a Peloton, rowing machine, punch bag, ballet bar and free weights. There are pull-up bars on the wall outside, and a Sonos speaker for your favourite workout soundtrack.
A Little Scandinavia in Berkshire
Sauna & Cold Shower
For those brave enough, the sauna and cold shower sit outside on the decking next to the pull-up bars — bringing a little Scandinavia to rural Berkshire. Pair a session with a cold swim from the garden's river frontage for the classic hot-cold ritual.
Room for Everyone
Guest Bathrooms
Two guest bathrooms mean there's plenty of room for everyone, alongside the master and Study/Bedroom Six en-suites. The first, near the second bedroom, has a shower, while the larger one next to Bedroom Five has a bath — with, of course, more views across the Thames.
Lawns to the Water's Edge
Riverside Garden
The garden runs down to Weir House's own Thames frontage — kayak, watch the river traffic drift past Sonning Bridge, and eat outside on summer evenings.
Al Fresco Dining
BBQ
At the end of the garden there is a beautiful BBQ. Kitted out with prep areas and outdoor sink, this is the perfect spot to dine out by the water's edge.
